The ‘Land of God’ has apparently innumerable signs of divine existences strewn all over and the abundance of nature is one of them. Having some of the best natural reserves, Uttarakhand attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world.For example, being one of the oldest national parks in the country,Jim Corbett National Park is the centre of Uttarakhand’s wildlife assortments. Having options of elephant and jeep safaris, this natural park is renowned for its initiative in ‘Tiger Conservation’ in the entire Asian region. The Royal Bengal Tigers, star inhabitant of this region has today surpassed the extinction scale due to the protection initiatives taken by the park authorities. But, when god bestows his blessings he never measures their magnitude and may be this why this land is blessed with innumerable natural wildlife habitats. The Nanda Devi National Park is one of those natural wonderlands that reside peacefully in the snow clad Nanda Devi mountain range in the state. The Nanda Devi National Park has a unique fusion of flora and fauna to boast of And the Snow Leopards top the list. Again the Rajaji National Park near Dehradun (capital of Uttarakhand) is another ideal spot for both wildlife spotting and leisurely trips. Though not the most celebrated ones, there are many more names in the wildlife habitats of Uttarakhand such as Govind National Park, Binsar National Park etc. A visit to the Govind National Park also gives a chance to witness glaciers, mountains and a unique combination of Himalayan flora and fauna. Bird spotting at this park is the most favourite activity and to more than 150 species of birds for its credit, it is truly an avian paradise. Apart from the wild animals, the Binsar sanctuary is a depot of different hued flowers and the delicate drapery of ferns. People come here to take a break from their routine life and admire nature in its purest form since nothing beats the bliss of appreciating some of the most beautiful things on earth. Thus, being home to different species of Leopard, Jungle Cat, Civet Cat, Barking Deer, Serow, Ghoral and Brown Bear, Musk Deer and rare birds- Uttarakhand covers a wide gamut of wildlife which is also dominated by varieties of wild sheep, goat, oxen, antelopes, butterflies and squirrel. Thanks to the recent government initiatives, eco resources have been identified in the state and the concept of eco tourism is getting popular with the visitors. Conservation projects to save the white tigers the red pandas have also been initialised. The best time to get acquainted with the wildlife in Uttarakhand is the months on the cooler side of the temperature scale and the best part is Uttarakhand enjoys a beautiful climate that remains pleasant even during the summer months. However, during monsoon time, the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are closed for the visitors.
